Resignation letter

This is the view of a Republican.

GOPLifer

Yesterday I resigned my position in the York Township Republican Committeemen’s Organization. Below is the letter I sent to the chairman explaining my decision.

Chairman Cuzzone:

We come together in political parties to magnify our influence. An organized representative institution can give weight to our will in ways we could not accomplish on our own. Working with others gives us power, but at the cost of constant, calculated compromise. No two people will agree on everything. There is no moral purity in politics.

If compromise is the key to healthy politics, how does one respond when compromise descends into complicity? To preserve a sense of our personal moral accountability we must each define boundaries. For those boundaries to have meaning we must have the courage to protect them, even when the cost is high.

Almost thirty years ago as a teenager in Texas, I attended my first county Republican…

    • The ‘lie machine’ is working overtime putting out the vitriolic reports on ‘crooked Hilary’ despite the reports of the investigations. The right-wing media (Fox news and most of the press) are pretty much the same in the US as they are here; it’s a constant drip-feed of untruths and distortions, exaggerations and innuendo. They get people believing it.
Hilary is no saint but she did a lot of good work before she went into politics with the poor and disadvantaged. She certainly isn’t the demon that the Republicans are making her out to be. Trump gets away with murder and is unscathed. Incredible.

    • The way I see it, Clinton is a bloomin’ mess. BUT, when you look at her that’s what you see/get. I don’t think she’s been very covert about her activities. With Trump, on the other hand, he says all the right words, but it’s that Nazi mindset that keeps creeping in that is so scary. You don’t KNOW what you’re getting with him. Sometimes it’s better the devil you know than the one you don’t. I’m afraid that’s the case with this election.

      • From my perspective Trump was just like Johnson and Gove over here, he says what people want to hear without a clue on how to deliver it. He exploits their fears and their problems to make them believe he will solve them all. He won’t. He’s a typical populist Politian. When the Brexiteers won over here you could see Boris was completely thrown. They did not have a clue how they were going to do it. What worries me is the violent overtones and the heavy racism and isolationalism. He comes over as a fascist.

      • All I can say to that is ditto in regards to the US election. I’m becoming so aware of the pall that is hanging over this country. People are beginning to shut down I think. That doesn’t bode well for the elections. People underestimate Trump, think he doesn’t have a snowball’s chance to win. I’m very much afraid they’re wrong.

I'd like to hear from you...
